The DAT Awards Night

The most important annual celebrity event in Triathlon Queensland took place on 3rd May 2009, right here in Brisbane at the Grange Bowls Club. It was awards night - that dazzling evening when the prestigious DAT Awards are presented for this year's best achievements in Triathlon.

The red carpet was laid out (maybe the bowls mat), and watching the celebrities arrive was worth the entry fee. Toby arrived in a little number from Ralph Lauren, Curtis's hair was done by the one and only Stefan, the number one celebrity Dan Atkins arrived with his gorgeous wife Katie. Dan was wearing a little outfit from Levi but when Rory arrived everyone's jaw dropped. He must have spent hours in the dressing room. This was later confirmed when he won the award for the best dressed on the night. So who won?

The 2009 host was: Toby Escott

2009 Presenters included: Dan Atkins, Katie Atkins and Geoff Lemmon

The Major Winners:

The Maroochydore Rebel Sports Most Improved Athlete of the Year

After the awards were presented, the night was followed with some fantastic stories of the year that we had - some were true, some not.

Highlights of the evening were:

1. Toby "Master of Ceremonies" Escott - great job, mate (Rule number one in show biz: never work with kids or animals).

2. The Cold Rock Ice Cream Cake from Cold Rock Grovely.

3. Webby (for keeping his pants on) and Roger from the bowls club.

4. Rob "I should take up bowls" Murdoch for one bowl that won him 10 bucks

5. Geoffrey for being Geoffrey (mate, don't change at all)

6. and those damn Ginger Beers at midnight for making CB get a hangover

This event will be a must to attend next year, and while the Noosa Triathlon draws larger numbers here in Queensland, the DAT club believes the Awards night to be "the most anticipated event in the world annually", as people all over Brisbane will travel to the ceremony next year. Thank you to all our helpers on the night.
